![]() You need a recreation passport on your vehicle to park in the Little Presque Recreation Area Parking Lot. This race is free in keeping with the Superiorland Ski Club's mission to promote youth sport. This is untimed race, and is a great chance for kids to experience racing. The course will be an out and back on the bike path. It starts and finishes at the South Beach Parking lot. The Upper Peninsula Health Plan Kids Race is Friday, Septemat 6:30 pm. Cell service is almost non-existent on the course, and if someone is lost, we need to physically go look for them. The time limit is meant to keep us all safe. It is a 1 mile walk (shorter depending on where you parked, back to the finish). We will ask any runners that do not make it to the final aid station at Wetmore Landing/Gravel Pit by 12:15 pm to hand in their bibs. ![]() The Half-Marathon has a four hour time limit. Packet pickup is also available race morning at Little Presque, starting at 8:15 am. Packet Pickup will take place at South Beach on Lake Street in Marquette. We are also asking you to consider parking at Wetmore Landing (until that lot is full) and walk the mile to the start. We ask you to carpool to the race start/finish. The course then winds back down to Lake Superior for a 1.5 mile stretch of rugged running from Wetmore landing back to the finish at Little Presque Isle. From there it gently winds up 300’ of elevation to views of the Huron Mountain Range from the top of Bareback Ridge. There will be outdoor waxing areas with power available beginning on Friday afternoon. Teams and individuals should be prepared to supply their own pop up tent or service vehicle/trailer, irons, tables, forms and extension cords to accommodate their waxing needs. WAXING: Indoor waxing space is not available. Note that we have full snowmaking capabilities on our nordic trails, which guarantees good race course conditions even in low-snow seasons. While the trail system is notorious for elevation changes, there are several options that level out the elevation if a less rigorous sprint course is desired, or to make the course less challenging for younger skiers. Multiple length options are available via cutoffs ranging from a few hundred meters to 5 km we have hosted races ranging from short sprints to 15 km in recent years. The biathlon trail system-the primary race course-includes 5 km of trails, 6 meters wide. Itasca has a total of 17 km of cross-country ski trails. The stadium area-approximately 4 acres-boasts a large staging area for race starts and finishes, a spectator area with multiple views of the action, as well as a top notch timing building with excellent views.
